ABOUT US
To provide news about the latest developments in epidemiology and information about resources epidemiologists can use to advance their careers. The Epidemiology Monitor is an information provider business owned and operated as a sole proprietorship. It was founded in 1980 by Roger H. Bernier, Ph.D, MPH, who serves part-time as Editor and Publisher along with Barbara Kress, Managing Editor, and Cynthia S. Wright, Director of Operations. Our office is located in Roswell, Georgia, a northern suburb of Atlanta. The Epidemiology Monitor publishes a monthly newsletter by the same name, an online weekly update called EpiMonday, a guide to resources in epidemiology entitled EpiSource, and the published compendium Epidemiology Wit and Wisdom--The Best of The Epidemiology Monitor. The Epidemiology Monitor is the only newsletter covering people, events, research and key developments in epidemiology. It was first published in 1980 as an eight page update and today averages 20-28 pages per month. EpiMonday is our first online publication of brief news items, calendar events, and a sample of job openings taken from the Epi Job Bank published in the Epidemiology Monitor newsletter. It is available free at the website epimonitor.net Episource is a comprehensive, one-of-a-kind guide to resources in epidemiology. It was first published in 1991 and in a second edition in 1998 in quarterly installments totalling more than1,100 pages in a two-binder set. The third edition is now in preparation. Epidemiology Wit and Wisdom--The Best of The Epidemiology Monitor is a 300 page collection of the most interesting and useful articles which have appeared in the newsletter over the years. Subscribers and buyers of our publications include epidemiologists, biostatisticians and public health professionals working in academic, government, industry, and private settings. The circulation is approximately 1,500 subscribers in the U.S. and overseas. Actual readership is estimated at 4,000-6,000 worldwide. Publishing Staff Profiles... Roger H. Bernier, PhD, MPH, Editor and Publisher Roger Bernier graduated from Assumption College in Worcester, Massachusetts in 1966. In that year, he embarked on the first phase of a 30 year public health career with the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta, GA. Roger entered graduate school at Yale in 1972 and earned an MPH in epidemiology in 1974. He immediately went on to the Johns Hopkins School of Hygiene and Public Health and earned a PhD in epidemiology in 1978. He then returned to the CDC for the second phase of his career in the National Immunization Program where he remains today as the Associate Director for Science. Dr. Bernier launched The Epidemiology Monitor in 1980 after finding it difficult as a graduate student to get vital information about developments in epidemiology at other schools and in the field in general. Barbara Kress, Managing Editor Barbara Kress graduated from Pennsylvania State University in 1966 and from Long Island University in 1969 with a Master of Science degree in Psychology. She has worked as a licensed counselor for more than 30 years and part-time as Managing Editor for The Epidemiology Monitor since 1994. Cynthia S. Wright, Director of Operations Cynthia S. Wright relocated to Atlanta, Georgia after
receiving her B.A. in 2004 from Towson University in Towson,
Maryland. She has been with the Epidemiology Monitor since January of 2007 serving
as Director of Operations. Her tasks also include updating EpiMonday, working with advertisers and subscribers, desktop publishing,
