Project Associate Scientist, Step I-V
The University of California at Berkeley, School of Public Health-EPI has an opening for a 100% time Project Associate Scientist, step I-V position to begin approximately September 1, 2009
Duties: The Associate Project Scientist will assist the Faculty Principal Investigator and the Associate Director for Research in supervision of field activities and perform data analysis and manuscript preparation for a large epidemiologic study of childhood leukemia. Specific responsibilities include: designing and monitoring methodologic studies for collection of biological specimens and environmental samples; reviewing molecular and laboratory data as well as quality control procedures; and conducting analyses of methods for exposure assessment within the scope of the ongoing study. A key role for this individual will be to interact closely with molecular biologists, geneticists, epidemiologists, and statisticians in the research group, and conduct statistical analyses of epidemiologic and genetic data.
The Associate Project Scientist will also participate in report writing, development of manuscripts, preparation of grant applications, and supervision of study staff and graduate student researchers with data management and statistical analysis. Minimum Qualifications: Ph.D. in Epidemiology and/or medical degree and M.P.H. in Epidemiology. Additional post-doctoral level training in genetic statistics would be desirable. A minimum of five years experience in conducting molecular and genetic epidemiologic studies of cancer is required, with an emphasis on childhood cancers strongly preferred.
The candidate will have at least 3 years experience with modern molecular biology applications in cancer epidemiology, including both biomarker studies and genetic epidemiology, and hands-on experience with state-of-the-art bioinformatics and statistical tools. This experience should be reflected in a strong publication record.
