Faculty Position
Infectious Disease Epidemiologist
The Department of Epidemiology in the College of Public Health at the University of Iowa is seeking candidates for a tenure-track faculty position with specific training and expertise in infectious disease epidemiology. Candidates should have a MD, DrPH, DVM or PhD with appropriate epidemiologic and infectious disease training. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in population-based infectious disease epidemiology, emerging infections, and pathogen transmission research and evidence of excellence in teaching. Areas of research interest and collaboration might include infectious disease surveillance, molecular epidemiology, risk factor investigation, epidemic modeling or vaccine research The faculty member may be at the rank of associate professor to full professor, depending upon experience. Duties of the faculty member include directing the Center for Emerging Infectious Diseases, conducting federally funded research, teaching of graduate students and health professionals, advising students, mentoring faculty and students and academic and public health service. Salary will be commensurate with experience. The position can begin as soon as January, 2010.
The College of Public Health currently has 73 faculty, MS, MHA, MPH and PhD graduate programs and over $40 million in research funding. The Department and its affiliated faculty within the University of Iowa include expertise and ongoing research programs in the following areas: preventive health services, occupational infectious diseases, clinical trial design and execution, nosocomial infections, host defense mechanisms, immunity, tropical infectious diseases and zoonoses, and clinical microbiology including: antimicrobial resistance, and molecular typing. Collaboration with other faculty from the Departments of Internal Medicine, Pathology and Microbiology in the College of Medicine, the State Hygienic Laboratory and the Iowa Department of Public Health is encouraged and supported.
