NRSA T32 Postdoctoral Fellowship

Interdisciplinary Women’s Reproductive Health Fellowship

National Institutes of Health Program:

Ruth L. Kirschstein National Research Service Award (NRSA) Institutional Research Training Grant (5T32HD055163-02). Sponsored by Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child health & Human Development (NICHD)

UTMB Training Program:

Women’s health research at UTMB offers a mentored interdisciplinary clinical research training experience. Program components address theory and methods in formal coursework and informal group venues. A tailored training plan is developed to meet the needs of individual Fellows. Ample opportunities abound for data analysis, manuscript development, grant writing, and networking. The program supports five positions for postdoctoral fellows.

Positions available:

One position is available immediately. Two additional positions will be available in Summer 2010.

Credentials and commitment:

Applicants who have completed a terminal degree as follows: MD post-residency, PhD, DrPH, ScD, or PsyD in disciplines related to women’s health. This interdisciplinary program seeks applicants who are highly motivated to pursue research careers focused on the many physiological and psychological issues facing women during their reproductive years. Successful candidates will engage in mentored research training for two years, (two consecutive 12-month appointments). Strong histories of statistical training or manuscript development are preferred.

Eligibility:

  • Must have completed terminal degree in defined area from accredited institution. Transcript or documentation from the awarding institution is required.
  • Must be a US citizen, non-citizen national, or permanent resident. Documentation of status is required. Individuals with temporary or student visas are not eligible for support.
  • Must be able to commit to full-time effort to the program. Studies leading to MD, medical residency, PhD, or other clinical health professional training are not supported.
  • Must undergo drug screening prior to appointment, as is mandatory for all UTMB personnel.

Support:

  • NRSA postdoctoral stipend amounts vary with level of experience and are set by NIH.
  • Health insurance for trainee is provided. Annual allowances for trainee travel to a professional meeting, modest research costs, and tuition are included. Relocation costs are not provided. Time for vacation and sick leave accrue on a monthly basis, following UTMB’s policies for other fulltime personnel.
  • NRSA trainees at the postdoctoral level incur a service payback obligation for the first 12-month of postdoctoral support. The second 12-month appointment functions as the service payback. The stipend increases one level at the beginning of the second 12-month appointment. A number of activities qualify as service, including health-related research and college instruction.

Submit the following via the postal service: (1) A personal statement including career goals, a brief description of proposed research, and how this training will help achieve your career goals; (2) a current CV; (3) documentation of citizenship status; (4) documentation of degree attainment; and  (5) three letters of reference.
