Reader Praise For Congratulations to you, your staff and advisors on reaching the 20th anniversary mark and still going strong! Your publication has served our discipline exceptionally well. The Epidemiology Monitor immediately filled a substantial void by creating a mechanism for essential grass roots communication regarding just about everything epidemiology related. It rapidly became and has persisted to be important reading for all epidemiologists. Accordingly, I would like to impart a public health haiku in honor of The Epidemiology Monitor. relevant, concise Best wishes to you and your staff on this marvelous achievement and for continuing and longstanding success. Jeffrey P. Davis, MD ?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????? "Keep up the great work, culling the news, covering the breaking events and conferences, providing some humor in our tormented corner of the world, and giving us a succinct job bank. I use the various little epithets that have been printed over the years as reality sandwiches. For example, the one that says "The Death Rate is a Fact--Everything Else is Inference." I would actually modify that to say "The All--cause Death Rate is a Fact--Everything Else is Inference," because I±ve seen some pretty wacky stuff written as the cause of death on some death certificates." Dick Clapp ?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????? "Happy Birthday, Epimonitor! I have been with you for more than 10 years, I still enjoy reading every issue. The most favorable section to me is the job bank, and that was how I got to know you more than 10 years ago while I was a graduate student at the University of Illinois in Chicago. Later, I asked your help to recruit epidemiologists several times and also urged my co-worker in another organization to use the epi bank for recruitment. The epi calendar is another good source of information for me and my co-workers here. ... I will stop here because the list will go on to include everything in the Epi Monitor. I like it very much. It is one of the things on my must-read list. Best wishes." Jesse Huang, MD, MPH, MBA ?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????? "As a regular reader of Epi Monitor I wish to commend you for your 20 years of putting out a most useful publication that gives us information, challenges us to think, and gives us some professional laughs. You take on some difficult issues and present them in a way to get your audience to consider things beyond just "the facts". Best wishes for the next 20 years, and beyond." Arthur L. Frank, MD, PhD ?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????? "I just wanted to drop a quick line to tell you what I like most about The Epidemiology Monitor. The job bank has really served me well - it's how I found my first job out of grad school. I would have to say that one of the best pieces of advice my grad advisor gave me was to get (and keep) a subscription to the EpiMonitor. I also appreciate the conference/meeting summaries and the Epidemiology Calendar. I work in a health services research setting and reading the EpiMonitor every month makes me feel more in touch with what's going on in the world of epi. Thanks and happy 20th anniversary!" Valerie F. Williams, MA, MS ?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????? "I can't recall how many years it has been since I have been receiving the EpiMonitor, but I have to say I always look forward to getting an issue. You provide a perspective (news of events, trends, overviews) and, hence, a dynamism lacking in the more traditional epi journals. You are to be congratulated for a job well done. " Charlie Hoff ?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????? "I had to give a briefing to the head of research and development for the USEPA. I peppered my talk with sayings and anedoctes from The Epidemiology Monitor. At a talk a few months later I heard him repeat one of the anedoctes. Keep it up! Too bad you don't sell T-shirts! Where would I be without my EpiMonitor!" Rebecca Calderon ?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????? "I always look forward to receiving my monthly volume of the Epi Monitor. I am able to stay informed of the activities that are going on in this diverse field. It is also a wonderful resource for all the new job openings and latest training opportunities. Keep up the good work!! Congratulations on your 20th anniversary!!! I hope the next 20 years are as great as the first!" Catherine G. Hall, MPH ??????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
