The University of Florida’s College of
Public Health and Health Professions and College of
Medicine invite applications and nominations for the
position of Chair of Epidemiology.
After impressive growth since its
establishment in 2011, the Department of Epidemiology is
seeking new leadership to advance to the next level of
excellence. Key responsibilities for the new chair
include strategic faculty hiring, expansion of the
current academic and training programs, and guidance and
leadership for increasing the department’s research and
scholarly portfolio. Outstanding opportunities exist for
building and expanding collaborative research programs.
The successful candidate must have a
distinguished record of scholarly achievement,
extramural funding, and mentoring and leadership
experience commensurate with the rank of Professor.
Academic qualifications should include either a PhD in
Epidemiology, a clinical degree with additional
epidemiology training, or equivalent training and
experience. The Department of Epidemiology (http://epidemiology.phhp.ufl.edu)
is strategically positioned in both the College of
Public Health and Health Professions and the College of
Medicine at the University of Florida. Faculty members
are jointly appointed to create synergies and collective
strength, resulting in a strong, competitive research
profile and highly trained students who receive
exceptional exposure to diverse expertise. Under its
founding chair, the department has achieved national
leadership in epidemiology education and research. It
has graduated 33 PhD students, formed a community
engagement program named HealthStreet with more than
10,000 enrollees, and is home to two National Institutes
of Health training grants. The department is located in
the Clinical and Translational Research Building (CTRB)
on the UF Health Science Center campus. The CTRB also
houses the Department of Biostatistics and the
Department of Health Outcomes and Bioinformatics, the
Clinical and Translational Science Institute and the
Institute on Aging, fostering collaborations across
disciplines.
