The Johns Hopkins Bloomberg
School of Public Health is seeking up to four tenure track
faculty of all ranks for endowed positions in the
Bloomberg American Health Initiative. Applicants should
have expertise in at least one of the Initiative’s focus
areas in the United States: environmental challenges,
adolescent health, obesity and the food system, and
violence. In addition, this search seeks to identify at
least one faculty member who is committed to researching
and addressing the impact of racism on health.
The Bloomberg American
Health Initiative aims to improve health and save lives in
the United States through education, research, and
practice. Supported by a transformational $300 million
gift from the Bloomberg Philanthropies, the Initiative is
training a new generation of leaders from multiple sectors
in the tools of public health, supporting research to
generate new insights about what works, and championing
innovative programs and policies that can become national
models. Faculty members chosen through this search will
participate in the leadership of these efforts. More
information about the Initiative and these focus areas is
available in a special issue of Public Health Reports at
this site
http://bit.ly/amhealth as well as at the Initiative’s
website
http://americanhealth.jhu.edu.
The Bloomberg American
Health Initiative will provide an endowed position of 5
years (with the potential for renewal) for senior faculty
and 3 years (without the expectation of renewal) for
junior faculty for candidates chosen through this search.
Johns Hopkins is an equal
opportunity, affirmative action employer committed to
recruiting, supporting, and fostering a diverse community
of outstanding faculty, staff, and students; we encourage
women and individuals from underrepresented minorities to
apply.
Position requirements
The faculty member(s) will
have a primary appointment in the department best aligned
with their interests and discipline, and rank will be
commensurate with experience. Joint appointments are
encouraged. Applicants should be trained at the doctoral
level (e.g., PhD, DrPH, MD, JD) in any discipline relevant
to the Initiative’s focus areas. Applicants may come from
any theoretical or practical orientation and utilize
quantitative, qualitative, or other methodologies as
relevant to public health and the applicant’s focus area
of expertise. A commitment to translation, dissemination,
and practice is highly valued.
The search is open to all
ranks. Successful applicants will demonstrate: a solid
record of scholarship and extramurally-funded research
commensurate with rank; strong skills to contribute to
advancing their field and teaching; a commitment to
addressing the challenge in their identified Initiative
focus area; and strong capacity for multidisciplinary
collaboration, leadership, and public health impact.
