Responsibilities

Develop first-authored and
co-authored manuscripts in the areas of injury prevention and
transportation safety, such as transportation policies and
laws, alcohol impairment, bicycling, walking, disparities,
rurality, novice drivers, and older drivers.

Provide direct support to NIH- and
CDC-funded studies

NIH R01: A
cluster-randomized trial to improve adolescent bicycling
safety
i
CDC: Impact of state
driver licensing policies on older driver crash involvement
rates

CDC/NIOSH:
Instrumented farm vehicle roadway study

Provide direct support to
additional ongoing injury prevention and road safety projects
(e.g., Iowa Crash Outcomes Data Evaluation System)

Assist with data analyses
♦
Assist with grant writing
♦
Project coordination with graduate
and undergraduate students
♦
Conduct and coordinate research
with collaborators within the University of Iowa College of
Public Health, College of Engineering, College of Medicine,
National Advanced Driving Simulator, School of Urban and
Regional Planning, as well as outside of the university.

$54,950 to Commensurate

Position description
The department of Epidemiology in
the University of Iowa College of Public Health seeks a highly
qualified and motivated scholar to join a research program in
the areas of injury epidemiology and road traffic safety. The
initial appointment is a full-time postdoctoral research
scholar position for two years, with the possibility to extend
to a third year, subject to performance and funding
availability.
The successful candidate will have
the opportunity to work with faculty, staff, and students
within the College of Public Health, University of Iowa Injury
Prevention Research Center, and Great Plains Center for
Agricultural Health, as well as several other colleges,
departments, and centers around the university (e.g., College
of Engineering, National Advanced Driving Simulator, College
of Law, etc.). A specific plan of research and mentorship will
be defined for the successful applicant based on their
interests and capabilities, and mentorship includes advisors
with successful research experience and a track record of
research funding.
This position is available
immediately and the start date is flexible.

Education requirement

transportation, or a related field
Required qualifications

Experience in conducting injury
and violence prevention, transportation safety, or other
related research with human subjects

Demonstrated ability to prepare
manuscripts, reports, visuals, and other documents of a
technical and scientific nature

Strong verbal and written
communication skills
♦
Ability to travel, valid US driving license and ability to
meet the University of Iowa Fleet Safety Program driving
standard is required
