The Division of Public Health (DPH) within the Department of Health Services (DHS) is recruiting for the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) & State Epidemiologist for Environmental and Occupational Health. This position will be located at the DHS central office in Madison, Wisconsin and will primarily working a hybrid in-office and remote schedule Monday-Friday with daytime hours.

Position Summary

The CMO will advise DHS Leadership and lead DPH in population health, medical and clinical priorities. The CMO will also provide leadership and support to BEOH sections including Hazard Assessment; Environmental Epidemiology and Surveillance; Lead and Asbestos; and Radiation Protection and will support the BEOH commitment to ensure that each person can live and work in healthy spaces by putting prevention first and centering equity in our programs, policies, and partnerships. This position also serves as the State Epidemiologist for environmental and occupational health concerns by leading surveillance activities for the purpose of public health planning. The CMO will be expected to work closely with programs focused on asthma management and prevention, childhood lead poisoning prevention, occupational health, environmental hazard assessment, and climate and health.

Salary Information

The total starting salary is up to $271,752 annually or up to the appointment maximum at the time of the appointment, depending on qualifications, plus excellent benefits. The salary includes discretionary supplemental pay for management responsibility. Qualified individuals may earn additional supplemental pay up to $21.00/hr. for Board Certification or $7.00 /hr. for Board Certification eligibility.
