ASSISTANT PROFESSOR, COMMUNITY HEALTH PROMOTION - UNIVERSITY OF MINNESOTA, SCHOOL OF PUBLIC HEALTH

https://hr.myu.umn.edu/jobs/ext/353639

The Division of Epidemiology and Community Health in the University of Minnesota School of Public Health seeks applications for a full-time tenure-track Assistant Professor position. In particular, we are seeking candidates who will contribute to one or more established teaching areas within the Community Health Promotion MPH program (health behavior theory and applications, intervention/program and policy development and evaluation, and related skills) and related areas of research expertise in the Division (including social determinants, substance use, sexual health, nutrition, physical activity, and weight-related health, and behavioral correlates of cancer, cardiovascular disease, or infectious disease).

The School of Public Health is committed to anti-racism and anti-oppression in our mission and operations (see https://www.sph.umn.edu/about/diversity-inclusion/strategy-planning/). In pursuit of this goal, we seek applicants who can contribute to this mission, as evidenced by research on health disparities, prior work with students and colleagues from historically marginalized backgrounds, or experience identifying and eliminating systemic barriers to academic success. Because the SPH and the Division seek to increase the diversity of its workforce, we particularly encourage applications from those who belong to groups that have been historically underrepresented in our discipline, including those who are Black, Indigenous, and people of color, those with disabilities, and those from LGBTQIA+ communities.

Strong interest in addressing structural racism and promoting health equity across populations from diverse backgrounds
Interest and experience in applied/practical work

Responsibilities of this position are: 1) to develop an independent program of research in community health promotion; 2) to collaborate with other faculty as co-investigators on new grant initiatives; 3) to teach relevant courses offered by the Division or new courses developed by the candidate; 4) to advise masters, doctoral and postdoctoral trainees; and 5) to contribute and be of service to our vibrant academic and larger community.

The salary is competitive and commensurate with experience and qualifications.

Qualifications.

Required: (1) PhD, DrPH, ScD, MD/MPH or equivalent; (2) Research experience in community health with strong and promising publication record in relevant peer-reviewed journals; (3) Demonstration of the ability and willingness to teach graduate-level courses on relevant topics, or evidence of potential for teaching success; (4) Evidence of effective collaboration.

Preferred: (1) Demonstrated history of successful external research funding or evidence of potential for obtaining external research funding, (2) History of effective teaching and mentoring, (3) Experiences working with stigmatized, marginalized or underserved communities.
