The Carl J. Shapiro Department of
Orthopaedic Surgery at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical
Center (BIDMC) and Harvard Medical School (HMS)
invites applicants for a Biostatistician position at
the Instructor level as part of a focused effort to
further strengthen key research areas.
The anticipated start
date is June 2025. Current strengths of the
department lie in biomechanics, imaging, in
silico and translational research. Please follow

research activities of the department. We seek
applicants can provide statistical expertise in the
areas of study design and data analysis to
investigators and researchers interested in
conducting clinical or experimental studies. Work
effectively within a group setting in the areas of
design of data collection instruments, study design,
database management, statistical programming,
analysis of data, statistical graphics and writing
reports which include explanations of methods used
and interpretations of results obtained. Consults
with investigators to determine questions of
interest and data needed to address those questions.
Determine and carry out appropriate statistical
analyses. Interpret and present data descriptions
and analysis results, including the explanation of
statistical techniques used, the assumptions made
and the generalization of results. Document methods
and results through preparation of reports. Write
statistical methods sections of manuscripts and
abstracts for publications or presentations. Write
computer programs to analyze data using available
statistical software. Advise users how to best
utilize database information.
This position would also support the
BIDMC Statistical Support Core. The Statistical
Support Core works in conjunction with Harvard
Catalyst to provide statistical and epidemiological
support for investigators throughout Beth Israel
Deaconess Medical Center. Services supported include
statistical analysis for research projects and
epidemiology as well as statistical support for
grant preparation.

Candidates should possess a PhD or
DrPH in biostatistics, epidemiology, or related
quantitative fields. Must have demonstrated
proficiency in SAS or R.
