The Division
of
Epidemiology and Community Health,
School of
Public
Health, University
of Minnesota, invites applications
for a
tenure-track or tenured
Assistant or
Associate Professor in
the area
of
cardiovascular epidemiology, with particular sub-interests in
aging and/or reducing health disparities.
As the
largest unit
with over 50
primary faculty, over
300 graduate
students and
approximately $25
million
annually in
sponsored research
grants, the
Division
plays a
major role
in the
School. The
Division
(Website
http://www.sph.umn.edu/academics/divisions/epich/ )
has a
distinguished record
of research
and
teaching. It
provides a
rich and
collaborative environment for
the
investigation of
cardiovascular disease and related areas, in one of the largest Academic Health
Centers in the U.S. Division research includes
a robust
blend of
observational studies (e.g., ARIC, MESA, CARDIA) and
interventional
investigations aimed at
improving
public health
and engaging
a multidisciplinary
integration of epidemiology, biology,
and behavioral science. The
educational program
includes majors
in
Epidemiology, Community Health
Education, Maternal/Child Health,
Public Health
Nutrition,
and Clinical
Research. The
Division
offers programs leading to
the MPH,
MS, and
PhD degrees,
and has
active pre-
and
post-doctoral training.
Requirements include an
earned
academic or
professional
doctorate.
We
are
particularly interested
in
epidemiologists or
MDs who
have research
and teaching
experience in one
or preferably
more of
the following
interests: etiology of cardiovascular
diseases or its risk factors (e.g.
diabetes) in older adults, the interplay between
cardiovascular risk factors and dementia, or preventing
cardiovascular disease in vulnerable populations.
Evidence
of potential
for obtaining independent
external
research funding
is highly
desirable, as well
as expertise
in teaching modern epidemiology in a large, diverse
academic institution,
strong evidence of
effective collaboration and working with diverse populations.
Rank and tenure status will
depend on
level of
accomplishment in
these areas. Salary
will be
competitive and
commensurate with qualifications and
background.
Primary research
responsibilities will
be to
develop an
independent program
of research in
the areas
listed above
that
dovetails with
and expands upon
the expertise
represented among current faculty. It is expected
that the
successful
candidates will
both lead
their own
research
efforts and
collaborate with other faculty
as
co-investigators on new grant
initiatives. Teaching responsibilities
for the
tenure-track and tenured
positions include teaching
in courses,
such as
cardiovascular
epidemiology or
epidemiologic methods.
Advising masters, doctoral and post-doctoral
students is
also
expected.
The search
will remain
open until
the
positions are
filled. Applications
with cover letter, CV
and a list
of at
least 3
references
should be
submitted online.
