Dalhousie University’s Department of Community Health & Epidemiology, Faculty of Medicine invites applications for a tenure stream position as a Tier 2 Canada Research Chair (CRC) in Patient-Centred Outcomes Research at the level of Assistant or Associate Professor. The successful candidate will benefit from, and strengthen, established relationships among patients, healthcare providers, policy-makers and researchers across the region through the Maritime Strategy for Patient Oriented Research SUPPORT Unit.

Applicants with a PhD and a strong track record of conducting patient-centred outcomes research in the areas of epidemiology or health services research will be considered for this CRC position. The ideal candidate will have a strong record of independent and externally-funded research that uses quantitative research methods to evaluate health services delivery including the benefits and harms of health interventions focused on a specific target population. The candidate must have the potential to develop a collaborative and impactful research program that is complementary to ongoing research activities within the Faculty of Medicine, and to engage with local, national and international research networks. The successful applicant will be expected to strengthen patient-centred outcomes research. Evidence of knowledge translation experience will be an asset.

The CRC program was established by the Canadian Federal Government with the purpose of attracting outstanding researchers to the Canadian university system. The CRC program expects Tier 2 nominees to be excellent emerging world-class researchers who have demonstrated particular research creativity; have demonstrated the potential to achieve international recognition in their fields in the next five to ten years; have the potential to attract, develop and retain excellent trainees, students and future researchers; and propose an original, innovative research program of high quality. Applicants who are more than 10 years from having earned their highest degree (and where career breaks exist, such as maternity, parental or extended sick leave, clinical training, etc.) may have their eligibility for a Tier 2 Chair assessed through the program’s Tier 2 justification process.  For more information regarding eligibility criteria, please consult the Canada Research Chairs website:  www.chairs.gc.ca . Appointment to this Canada Research Chair position is subject to review and final approval by the Canada Research Chair Secretariat.

Submissions received before August 1, 2016 will be given full consideration.  Please send a curriculum vitae, a two-page research statement, a one-page description of teaching philosophy, and arrange to have three letters of reference sent under separate cover to Dr. Adrian Levy, Chair of the Search and Selection Committee c/o Kasia Wolkowicz PO Box 15000, Halifax, NS Canada B3H 4R2. email: kasia@Dal.Ca
