Job Title:  Assistant Professor (Research Focus)

Operating Unit/Facility:  Rowan University School of Osteopathic Medicine, Stratford, New Jersey

Department:  Obstetrics & Gynecology

Reports to:  Chair

Rowan University is a comprehensive state-designated research institution with approximately 14,000 students.  Its main campus is located in Glassboro, New Jersey, 20 miles southeast of Philadelphia, and it has a branch campus and medical school in Camden and a second medical school in nearby Stratford.  Rowan is only the second university in the country to offer MD and DO medical degree-granting programs.  The School of Osteopathic Medicine has a faculty practice plan that serves approximately 200,000 patients throughout southern New Jersey.  The institution is also home to the South Jersey Technology Park, which fosters the translation of applied research into commercial products and processes.  The University boasts eight colleges - Rohrer College of Business and colleges of Communication and Creative Arts, Education, Engineering, Graduate and Continuing Education, Humanities and Social Sciences, Performing Arts, and Science and Mathematics - and has been called upon the state to create a College of Health Sciences.

The Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology at RowanSOM is seeking a full-time Assistant Professor who will develop and maintain an independent, extramurally-funded research program with teaching responsibilities for medical students, graduate students, and post-doctoral trainees.

Candidate Qualifications:

·         PhD in Biology or other related sciences a background (Ph.D, MD, DO, DDS in conjunction with an MPH or equivalent experience)  in clinical epidemiology, applied statistics, human biology or quantitative psychology

·         Focus in one or more of the following research areas: perinatal epidemiology, reproductive physiology, maternal and child health, women’s health, and/or nutrition.

·         Heavy emphasis in research design and biostatistics

·         Experience with SAS and at least one other software package (SPSS,R)

·         Expertise in applied methods for example how to build databases, design and analyze observational studies, human clinical trials, and community follow-up studies.

·         Good interpersonal skills when consulting with residents, physicians and others with limited expertise in research design and  statistical analysis

·         Grant writing experience, the ability to develop an independent research focus, and refereed publications

·         Ability  to work independently and collaboratively on applied research that compliments current Ob/Gyn faculty interests

·         Track record of scholarly contributions

·         Track record of extramural research funding

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Devises and conducts experiments
  • Processes and analyses results and data
  • Communicating results to the scientific community via published papers
  • Collaborates with industry/academia to apply the results of research and develop new techniques, products or practices
  • Presents ongoing work and findings to colleagues at academic conferences, and summarizing the nature of their research, their methodology and their findings
  • Carries out field work to inform their research
  • Teaches, demonstrates to or supervises students (specifically medical students) and trains and supervises other members of staff
  • Devises or helps to draw up new research proposals and applies for funding and grants
  • Works in multidisciplinary teams (in academia, across different faculties or schools, and in industry, across different functions of the business)
  • Teaches and mentors medical and graduate students and post-doctoral trainees.
  • Fulfills all research compliance requirements and training
  • Participates in faculty and professional activities as approved by the Department Chair
  • Performs all other duties assigned by the Chair to support the mission, vision and values of Rowan University School of Osteopathic Medicine OB/GYN Department.
