The intervention research program on sexual health and health equity amongst key populations in West Africa (POCAO[1] research program) focuses on the prevention of HIV and other sexually transmitted infections (STIs), global questions of reproductive and sexual health, the achievement of health equity, and general human rights issues amongst subpopulations considered key in the transmission of HIV in the three West African countries covered by the program, which are Benin, Burkina Faso and Mali

Dr. Alary is looking for a postdoctoral fellow to join the POCAO program team. He or she will also assist Dr. Alary in all scientific aspects of the research program.

Qualifications and skills required:

·         Possessing a doctorate earned within the last five years[2] or the equivalent[3] in a discipline relevant to the POCAO research program (for example: epidemiology, public health, sociology, anthropology, or health economics), or being on the verge of obtaining such a diploma (before assuming the position)

·         Experience in research on HIV prevention and/or world health

·         Skilled in the use of MS-Office software

·         Skilled in the use of statistical software (preferably SAS) if the principal qualifications are in quantitative research

·         Skilled in the use of qualitative analytical software (preferably NVivo) if the principal qualifications are in qualitative research

·         Capacity to work independently and to prioritize the tasks to be accomplished in a context of multiple responsibilities

·         Ability to conduct research projects within a multidisciplinary team

·         Ability to communicate orally in English and in French

·         Ability to write effectively in French and in English

Details on the position:

This position is based in Québec City, in the Research Centre of the CHU de Québec — Université Laval, Hôpital du St-Sacrement, but will involve regular stays of between several weeks and a few months in West Africa. (The attendant costs will be assumed by the POCAO research program.) The starting date is negotiable, but could be immediately. The duration of the appointment is two years, and this may be renewable.
