independent portfolio in cancer epidemiology research
Careers at Marshfield Clinic Research Institute
Marshfield Clinic Research Institute (MCRI) is the largest
private medical research institute in Wisconsin. MCRI is a
division of a large integrated multispecialty healthcare
system, Sanford Health, with hundreds of clinical
facilities across the north-central U.S. MCRI is composed
of five different research centers and employs over 35
doctoral-level scientists and more than 200 scientific and
technical support staff. Research at MCRI is funded by a
variety of federal agencies and other sources, including
CDC, NIH, PCORI, FDA, and private industry. MCRI’s main
campus is in Marshfield, a city about 2 hours north of
Madison.
It offers all the benefits of a small city lifestyle with
convenient access to large metropolitan areas, including
Minneapolis-St. Paul and Milwaukee. The community offers a
rewarding, low stress lifestyle with short commute times,
excellent schools, affordable housing, cultural events,
and a variety of outdoor recreational activities.
Research Scientist Position in Cancer Epidemiology
MCRI is recruiting
an Assistant or Associate Scientist in their Center for
Clinical Epidemiology & Population Health. This individual
should have a strong record of scientific discovery in
their area of expertise, be able to secure externally
funded research awards, and collaborate with other
scientists and clinician investigators. The Assistant or
Associate Scientist will lead a research program with a
focus on cancer epidemiology, including involvement with
the Connect for Cancer Prevention Study (CONNECT), an
NCI-funded prospective cohort and research resource (https://www.cancer.gov/connect-prevention-study/)
that MCRI has participated in for several years.
Responsibilities will include: (a) lead and assist with
cancer epidemiology research projects in collaboration
with NCI and other CONNECT study sites across the U.S.,
(b) lead the local CONNECT study team at MCRI to ensure
completion of operational milestones, and (c) lead and
assist with analyses, manuscripts, and presentations to
disseminate CONNECT study findings. The Assistant or
Associate Scientist will be expected to develop an
independent research portfolio with a focus on cancer
epidemiology, partly comprised of CONNECT-related work, as
well as other externally funded research that aligns with

onsite or hybrid, with a combination of in-office and
remote presence (depending on project activities).
