Setting:
The mission of the
University of Oklahoma Hudson
College of Public Health (HCOPH) is to protect
and improve the health of people through public health
education, workforce development, research, service and
advocacy. The Department of Biostatistics and Epidemiology
(https://publichealth.ouhsc.edu/departments/biostatistics-epidemiology)
is housed within the HCOPH, Oklahoma’s only accredited
School of Public Health. The Department is the largest of
four in the college and comprises 25 faculty and
approximately 80 graduate students in MPH, MS, and PhD
programs. The Department is home to a diverse faculty
advancing innovative methodological and applied research
in longitudinal and correlated data analysis, survival
analysis, clinical trial methodology, Bayesian statistics,
survey sampling, statistical genetics, high-dimensional
data science, and population health research addressing
health disparities, tobacco control, communicable
diseases, trauma-related health outcomes, reproductive and
perinatal epidemiology, and cardiometabolic outcomes
across diverse populations. New faculty will also have the
opportunity to assist in designing and establishing
interdisciplinary and collaborative research initiatives
with various departments and centers across the campus,
including the Oklahoma Clinical and Translational Science
Institute, the Stephenson Cancer Center, the Harold Hamm
Diabetes Center, and other health institutions in the
region.
Oklahoma is culturally unique given that it is home to 39
federally recognized Native American tribes. Oklahoma City
(OKC) is the 20th largest city in the United States and
rapidly growing. OKC has a very affordable cost of living
(e.g., $125,000 in OKC = $250,000 in San Francisco,
$218,000 in Boston, $160,000 in Denver, $153,000 in Chapel
Hill), excellent schools, and a wide array of cultural
amenities. US News & World Report recently named OKC the
nation’s #2 best big city to live in for 2026-2027. OKC
has thriving sports, cultural, art, and music scenes, and
has experienced considerable urban revitalization efforts
over the past several years.
